Albion Online - The Avalonians

I had the pleasure to create the first Mobfaction that was added to Albion Online since the release of the game.
It was a challenge to create a completely new Mobfaction that had to tie into all the hidden lore of Albion Online.
The Avalonians are strongly inspired by Athurian Lore as much of Albion online is.
I managed to tie in the Grail, Lady of the Lake and even Arthur himself while creating a Warhammer-esk faction of perfection.

Long before the first colonists arrived in Albion, its native inhabitants had attuned themselves to the magic within the world by listening to whispers of stick and stone. This was a nature-loving tribe called the Keepers. There were others, though, who saw the pure power of the land and claimed it as their own. These would come to be known as the Avalonians.

The Avalonians were a proud and ancient faction, formed after the dragons went to their long slumber. They learned the power of the land through trial and error, infusing their tools, beasts, and even themselves with magic. After many failed attempts at mastering the crystallized magic of Albion, the Avalonians discovered a great white crystal, purer and stronger than its blue counterparts.

An apparatus the size of a lake was built Around the enormous crystal, distilling pure, glowing magic in liquid form. This was the first grail. The city built to house this grail was named Avalon.

Arthur and the Order of the Grail drank from the liquid and pledged their lives to protect it, while a "lady of the lake" was chosen to judge who was worthy to drink from it. She was named Morgana, and was a wise and powerful mage. Thus began the golden age of Avalon, under King Uther and his two trusted advisors, Arthur and Morgana.

During these golden times, a young Keeper druid named Merlyn warned of the reawakening of the dragons. When his tribe did not listen to his warnings, he approached the Avalonians for aid. The Avalonians, understanding the lingering danger of the sleeping dragons, were willing to join forces with Merlyn.
The dragons were defeated by Merlyn and the Avalonians in a colossal battle that cost Uther his life. A new ruler was needed. As Merlyn learned more of Morgana's growing alliance with demonic forces, he clandestinely crowned Arthur as the new king, rejecting Mordred, Morgana’s son. Morgana, hurt and betrayed, spent the following years plotting and corrupting the court of Avalon against Merlyn and Arthur, who by that time had left Avalon to rule from Caerleon.

A war between the forces of Morgana and Arthur erupted. Overwhelmed by the power of the Order of the Grail, Morgana opened countless gates to hell, letting in innumerable demons. In desperation, Merlyn cast a spell that destroyed both armies and condemned Morgana to hell.
Afterward, all that remained on the battlefield were the nearly immortal Avalonians. The strongest retreated to Avalon along with the gravely wounded Sir Bedivere, mighty steward of Arthur, swearing an oath to return when Albion needed them. The other surviving Avalonians retreated to guard their hidden grail sources from corruption.

Thousands of years later, colonists began to arrive on Albion's shores, spreading across the land and pillaging everything in sight. Portals to hell appeared more frequently, Disciples of Morgana grew restless in their strongholds, and Keepers began to emerge from their caves.
Deep in the earth, a drop of pure magic fell into a grail. The Order reawakened, ready to cleanse Albion of its impurity.

The different Subfactions within the Avalonians

ORDER OF THE GRAIL: VALOR
The Valor subfaction, first of the "three pillars" of the Order of the Grail, embodies strength and power, as its members have drunk from the pure magic waters of the grail and survived. These fighters use both melee and ranged attacks, swinging at the players with tremendous swords or twin axes, but are also defenders who can cast mighty shield spells that knock enemies back and reflect damage. Their oath describes them as vessels of the grail's power, meaning they convey themselves with stoicism and dignity - but are not afraid to show their full strength when the sanctity of their realm is threatened.
ORDER OF THE GRAIL: MAGIC
The Magic subfaction, second of the "three pillars" of the Order, embodies the mystical, arcane, and technical aspects of the grail's power. Its members have imbued not only their own bodies, but also other creatures and even inanimate stone and metal with crystal magic to mould them into powerful weapons. They see themselves as both scientists and artists, sculpting magic into usable forms. Their oath describes them as conduits of the grail's power, and while they are mysterious and arcane in their practice, a genuine love of experimentation - as well as of their fearsome creations - shines through.
ORDER OF THE GRAIL: SPIRIT
The Spirit subfaction, third and most mysterious of the "three pillars" of the Order, embodies the religious and spiritual aspects of the grail. These mystics have a complex and contradictory role, as they simultaneously heal their allies and harm their enemies. In battle, they rely on focus, training, and control rather than brute strength or magical overkill. Their oath describes them as the soul of the grail. To outsiders, they appear as fanatical devotees, engaged in a holy war to defend the grail. Their combat style takes a three-pronged approach: soothing the wounded, strengthening their allies, and breaking those who oppose them.

Avalonian Relationships

The Present
Thousands of years after the darkest day, colonists arrive on Albion shores. Quickly spreading throughout the land, pillaging and gathering everything they can. Portals to hell appear more often, Disciples of Morgana are restless in their strongholds, and keepers are stepping into the light. The fabric between dimensions is thinning as colonists dabble with crystal magic, pushing the land to an uproar.
Deep in the earth, a drop of purest magic descends into a grail. The Order awakes once again. Ready to clean Albion of demons and other impure beings.

Their relation to the Players of Albion
The players come from the old world which is bleak and grey without magic, and filled with war. The players enter Albion, a green world, filled with magic and opportunity, ready to find their new way, using everything that falls into their hands to gain advantage over others.
Little do they know, they are dabbling in deep and dark things, raiding hellish places and disturbing ancient monuments, even using impure crystal magic to achieve their goals.
The Order, pledged to protect Albion from all that is impure, awakens due to the thinning fabric between hell and the world, finding their beloved Albion claimed by honorless, foolish and impure adventurers. To make it worse, disciples of Morgana and Keepers are roaming Albion again.
Enraged by this defilement, the Order is ready to bring glory to their Land and cleanse it of the impure. The first step of returning Avalon and Arthur to glory is about to be taken.

Relationship to the other FactionsThe Colonists
"They claim this land with banners of nameless kings and worthless achievements, no one is king but Arthur!"

The Heretics
"Feeble Minds in fragile bodies. They taint our land with their heresy, they need to be cleansed."

The Disciples of Morgana
"Treacherous, behated Morgana, may she be torn asunder in the depths of hell as we are tearing her followers asunder"

The Keepers
"Where were they when Arthur needed their aid, where were they when Merlyn betrayed us? Their treachery goes as deep as their roots"

The Undead
"Our beloved brothers and sisters, cursed for eternity, we shall purify their bones and let them find final rest"

The Demons
"There is nothing more rotten and impure than these abominations, they will crawl back to their world of torment and pain after we are done with them, if they can still crawl that is"

The Avalonians
"The world grew dark since the age of Arthur, it is time for Albion to witness the light of Avalon again!"
